  • Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) – A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) licensed by the NGO Office of the Council of Ministers of Iraqi Kurdistan Region on 4-Jun-2014 with number #604-K

IPMO

Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) is a non-profit body dedicated to the establishment of Project Management as a profession with its own body of knowledge and a set of skills, tools, and techniques in the federal Republic of Iraq. Furthermore, IPMO explicitly endorses the seven principles of Women’s Empowerment.
In the longer term it is planned that the Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) establishes formal links with international Project Management bodies, namely the US based Project Management Institute (PMI) and the European based International Project Management Association (IPMA).

Scope

IPMO territory covers all eighteen governorates that make up the federal Republic of Iraq including the three governorates Sulaymaniah, Erbil and Duhok which make up the Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

Legal aspects

There are two laws which cover the formation of Non-governmental organizations (NGO):

Law number (12) of the year 2010 for Non-governmental organizations enacted by the federal Republic of Iraq.

Law number (1) of 2011 for Non-governmental organizations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq enacted by the Kurdistan Autonomous Region.

Women’s Empowerment Principles

The Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) explicitly endorses the seven principles of Women’s Empowerment championed by the UN Global Compact and UN Women (https://www.unglobalcompact.org/take-action/action/womens-principles)

Registration as an NGO

Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) was incorporated as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on 5 June 2014 and the executive order to incorporate IPMO was reissued on 14 May 2018.

It is important to note that NGOs incorporated in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq are not recognized in the fifteen remaining governorates which make up the rest of the federal republic of Iraq. It is therefore necessary to either relocate the headquarters of IPMO to Baghdad or to incorporate a new sister NGO with its headquarters in Baghdad in order to be able to cover all eighteen governorates.

Iraq Project Management Organization (IPMO) By-laws

Iraq Project Management Organization is an organization which has been established according to Law No. (1) of the year 2011 of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and carries out its work and activities within these by-laws.
