PM Skills

To become a successful Project Manager an individual requires a wide range of skills and abilities together with a solid track record of delivering successful projects. The term “Project Manager” can mean slightly different things according to the Wikipedia, the Project Management Institute
PMI and the International Project Management Association (IPMA – http://ipma.ch) but the basic principles are the same. We at Iraq Project Management firmly believe that most Project Management skills can be acquired and we see it as part of our mission to give every educated individual in the Republic of Iraq and Iraq’s neighbors the opportunity to acquire Project Management skills and help them along the way.

We believe that for an individual to become a successful Project Manager and attract lucrative job offers from reputable employers, the individual needs three core skills:

  1. A full command of the English language as evidenced by the internationally recognized TOEFL qualification Core_Skill_#1_FullCommandEnglishLanguage_26-Dec-2013
  2. Mastery of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and the necessary minimum number of Project Management hours of experience as evidenced by the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from the Project Management Institute (PMI) Core_Skill_#2_ProjectManagementProfessional_26-Dec-2013
  3. Mastery of an industry standard Project Management tool, which we believe to be Microsoft Project 2010, as evidenced by the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects certificate from the Microsoft Corporation Core_Skill_#3_MicrosoftProject2010_26-Dec-2013

Together with the Professional Development Institute of the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani we offer training courses and development programs in all these three core areas at their Sulaimani campus. We are also working with leading private sector employers in Iraqi Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq to develop apprenticeships that would enable candidates to acquire the necessary hours of practical Project Management experience.
